The Museum showcases 400 years of prison life. Discover authentic items, which belonged to officers and prisoners, as well as displays on the historic market town.

Shepton Mallet Prison has resided on its current site since 1625. The building was influenced by prison reformer, John Howard, but there's so much more to learn about the prison's history.

We welcome all visitors. However, due to the nature of our historic site some parts of the Victorian building may present difficulties for people with disabilities and limited mobility. Please get in touch with any questions.
