Motorcyclists Gear Up for Charity Ride to Help Save Lives

Two decommissioned prisons – Shepton Mallet and Shrewsbury – will serve as the start and finish points for a remarkable charity motorbike ride. On Friday 6th June, Cruise4Crews will hit the road in support of YFW Blood Bikes.
A Unique Ride For a Lifesaving Cause
The event is set to begin at 10:00am outside Shepton Mallet Prison, renowned as the worldâs oldest and most haunted prison. There, a team of motorcyclists will gather at the iconic gates, ready to set off on their cross-country journey. Before the ride begins, visitors and motorbike enthusiasts will have the chance to check out the impressive lineup of bikes – the perfect opportunity to admire the machines and chat with the riders.
Riding For Life: Prison to Prison Challenge
Riding in groups of five, the bikers will make their way to the equally eerie and haunted Shrewsbury Prison. Keep an eye out – you might spot them en route, turning heads and raising awareness for the vital work of YFW Blood Bikes. But the ride is just one part of the adventure. Upon arrival at Shrewsbury, the riders will face a Night Behind Bars, a chilling overnight stay in prison before departing the following morning. Donât worry, weâll release them… as long as theyâre on their best behaviour!
âCruise4Crews was started by a bunch of bikers who wanted to find ways to combine our love of motorcycling with raising money for charities.ââ Says Mike Matthews, one of the Cruise4Crews riders. ââA few of us who worked together got chatting and began coming up with silly ideas and fun ways to make bike rides about more than just heading to the seaside for an ice cream or admiring our shiny bikes.ââ
ââA plan was hatched to approach both Shepton Mallet Prison and Shrewsbury Prison about organising a ride-out from one to the other, complete with an overnight stay in a haunted prison. Weâd previously arranged a âRide and Stayâ but then Covid hit, and sadly, we could no longer carry out this amazing charity ride.ââ
ââStill, I didnât want to give up on such a unique way to raise much-needed funds for the incredible volunteers of Blood Bikes. So I reached out again, and after much help and support of local companies and Cove Attractions, weâre thrilled that this one-of-a-kind ride-out, Prison Bike, is finally going ahead!ââ
A spokesperson for Cruise4Crews said there are still a few places left for those whoâd like to take part. If youâd like to support the cause or join the ride, please visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Cruise4crews
